Since 2002 Magma festival has given its audience the chance to see uncommon, high-quality films which, by experimenting with different styles and techniques, recount real life stories and great adventures. Look ad the selected films in our last edition!
The Lorenzo Vecchio Award is named after the creator of Magma, who died at the young age of twenty-three after directing the first three festival editions. The award is given by the Jury to the best short film of the festival.
Directors, jurors and film industry experts are the vital essence of each festival edition! Besides getting them to meet up and exchange ideas, we also like helping them to discover the beauties of Acireale, Mount Etna and try out the most amazing Sicilian food!
Magma has been committed for years to collaborate with international festivals and cultural centres. The aim is to offer its audience the chance to lay their eyes on a cinematic horizon as wide and diverse as possible, building a bridge for the exchange and sharing of films and experiences.

A cultural project that for 2 years has added value to the local area showcasing the best of International short films.
During the 22nd edition the Lorenzo Vecchio Award went to the Iranian short film File by Sonia K. Hadad; the Audience Award went to Nothing Holier than a Dolphin by Isabella Margara. Special mentions went to La Perra, animated short film by Carla Melo Gampert, and Carpenter, documentary directed by Xelîl Sehragerd.
